Core vs. Lifestyle Vaccines Explained
- Core Vaccines (Essential for All Pets): Dogs: Rabies (legally mandated in most jurisdictions) and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis/Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza). Cats: Rabies and FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia).
- Lifestyle Vaccines (Risk-Dependent): Bordetella (kennel cough) and Canine Influenza for social dogs; Leptospirosis for wildlife/water access; FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) for outdoor or multi-cat homes.
- Intestinal Parasite Control: Puppies and kittens should be dewormed every 2 weeks until 8–12 weeks of age, followed by monthly broad-spectrum parasite preventatives.
